PROTECTIVE Attending CompTIA

24 Feb PROTECTIVE Attending CompTIA

PROTECTIVE, a Horizon 2020 project, aims to deliver cyber security protection to SMEs via managed service providers (MSPs).  Tues Feb 7th 2017, Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) kindly included the PROTECTIVE project in their Channel Community Regional Tour Ireland, Dublin event. CompTIA is a global, not-for-profit IT trade association whose members include MSPs who service the SME sector. CompTIA provides resources in the areas of IT education, IT certification, IT advocacy and IT philanthropy to help its member companies. More than 20 MSPs from Ireland were in attendance.

Meeting with the MSPs gave us the opportunity to improve the accuracy of the SME needs in development of the PROTECTIVE system. Event participants were asked for initial responses within the SME community via a questionnaire survey that was distributed to the MSPs. Responses will be analysed and formulated into SME requirements for the PROTECTIVE system.

Attending the CompTIA event also gave PROTECTIVE the opportunity to hear the needs of the MSPs through discussions. Cyber security was top of the agenda identifying the need for: knowledge of vendor neutral education in industry best practices in security; a roadmap of security certifications for SMEs starting with cyber essentials; including basic cyber security awareness early in the education system.
